Chess Results SEA Games 2011

18 Nov 2011, Kuala Lumpur - Here are some confirmatory results of the Mixed Chess, Blindfold chess and ASEAN Chess held during the first part of the ongoing SEA Games 2011 in Indonesia.

Vietnam chess contingent had a successful 26th SEA Games in Indonesia. They carried off two gold medals and one bronze medal from three categories have been completed. Two gold medals came from mixed pair chess category and blindfold chess category while the bronze medal came from ASEAN chess category.

In the last round of mixed pair chess category, Vietnam teammate, GM Dao Thien Hai and WGM Nguyen Thi Tanh shared scores with their opponents GM Susanto Megaranto and WGM Irene Kharisma Sukandar. With those result, Indonesia lost the opportunity to get any medal in this category. The gold medal was snatched by Vietnam with total point 8,5. The silver medal was taken by Philipines teammate, GM Oliver Barbosa and WIM Chaterine Perena, while the bronze medal was taken by Malaysia teammate, IM Lim Yee Weng and WFM Nurjahiha Hisham.

In blindfold chess category, Vietnam also got a gold medal who contributed by first seeded GM Le Quang Liem with elo rating 2714. He got 7 points from nine rounds, similar to GM John Paul Gomes from Philipines, but Gomes lost head to head over Quang Lim. So, even he got full point in last round from Indonesia player, IM Tirta Chandra Purnama, Gomes had to satisfied with silver medal. While the bronze medal went to another Philippines player, GM Laylo Darwin.

Malaysia won the bronze in the Mixed Chess event. Below are shown two games of round five that gave the 1.5 points to the Malaysian Mix Team.
