9 Sep 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Today is the last round of the 40th Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey and the men play Thailand and we are already 2-0 up after IM Lim Yee Weng won his board and Lim Zhuo Ren on fourth board.
In the ladies, Malaysia play Estonia and the fourth board has been declared a draw where Camilia Johari played against WFM Tuuli Vahtra. Malaysia 0.5-0.5 level! Three boards still playing.
Latest News: Malaysia win against Thailand in the open category. IM Mok, IM Lim Yee Weng and Lim Zhuo Ren won their board games except for IM Liew Chee-Meng who went down to a lower rated player on third board.
Meanwhile the ladies had a tough night tonight as they went down 1-3 to Estonia. Our points came from Tan Li Ting and Camilia Johari on boards 3 and 4. Our top boarders, Nur Najiha and Nur Nabila got whipped. Nur Najiha had 2 pawns and a rook against white’s four pawns and a rook. Najiha’s pawns has no clear path to queen while the pawns were swarming around. While Nur Nabila had fallen into a mating net. The white queen checked black on the e6 square forking the undefended black rook on c8 at the same time.
