28 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur – It is a free day for the Melaka Chess Festival 2012 players. However, let us look at a few games of round 7 of the Melaka International Open 2012 held yesterday in Melaka.

 

Here are two games of round 7, the first game is between Arun Prasad of India with the white pieces against GM Alfonso Romero Holmes of Spain. GM Arun Prasad won.

 

White has the slight edge with an extra pawn. Both have a bishop and a rook. But white’s pawns comprised of three connected pawns against black’s two connected pawns.

Yeoh Li Tian (pix left above) caused a stir yesterday by winning against the beautiful WGM Nadig Kruttika of India. The game of round 7 is shown below:-

 

 

Yeoh sacrificed his queen at b8, 24.Qb8+, then if black plays 24…Nxb8, then 25.Rc8 # mate!
