5 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur - Satu kejohanan catur bagi dua kategori (IPT dan U-10, U-12, U-16, U-18) akan diadakan Di Melaka pada 21April 2012. Butir-butir pertandingan adalah seperti maklumat berikut:-

Chek Kin Keow Declared UPM OPEN Champion!

3 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur - Last Sunday the first UPM Open 2012 was held and Chek Kin Keow won with 6 points and a superior tie-break point.

Second, Abdul Haq, third, Mohd Noor Azam Mohd Noor, fourth, Abdul Shukor Arajah. All three players scored 6 points from 7 rounds of rapid play. Fifth, Fairul Yusoff.

Melaka Chess Festival 2012 - Update!

2 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur - An update from the organizers of Melaka Chess Festival 2012.

Just a gentle reminder on the upcoming 750 Melaka International Chess Festival which will be starting less than 3 weeks away from today. If you have signed up for the event, we thank you for the support and interest that you have given us but if you have not…. hurry now and book your place! We are sending you this reminder to make sure that you do not miss this golden opportunity to be a part of a great event – a history in the making as this is Melaka first ever International Chess event and what an event it will be!!!!!

Do mark your calendar from 20th April to 1st May 2012 and come down and join us at Hang Tuah World Heritage Hotel Melaka, Melaka Bandaraya Bersejarah

With more and more players from all over the world registering for the event – including some 20 GM and 10 IM, we look forward to host more chess players to participate in this inaugural festival especially from the local chess community – ALL of YOU included!

There are special entry fees rate for IPTA students, School students, Members from the MCF Affiliated Association, National Age Group Junior Champions and of course, the CITIZENS of MELAKA (The attachment refers)

As you are aware, the 750 Years Melaka International Chess Festival offers 3 major events which are the Florencio Campomanes Memorial International Rapid Chess Championship, the Historical Melaka International Chess Championship and the Historical Melaka Challenger Chess Championship.

1. Florencio Campomanes Memorial International Rapid Chess Championship will be held over the weekend on 21st and 22nd of April. The event shall be played over 11 rounds using a time control of 25 minutes to finish. Total prize fund for this event is USD 20,000
2. The Melaka International and Melaka Challenger will run concurrent and will be held from 23rd April to 1st May 2012 played over 9 rounds using classical time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment from move 1. The total prize fund for the International Open is RM 40,000 (about USD 13,000) and for the Challenger event is RM 10,000 (about USD 3,500)

If you are interested to take part in this event, please fill up and complete the attached forms and return it to Mr Khairi Jansar at kj_melaka@yahoo.com (with copies to me at najib.wahab@chess-malaysia.com and Mr Gregory Lau at msianchess2010@gmail.com) as soon as possible together with a scanned copy of the bank transfer/transaction slip paid to the Festival bank account. All payments for entry fees, accommodation (if any) and airport transfer fees/tour packages (if any) MUST be banked into the same bank account

1 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur – More pictures of the chess event at the Islamic International University in Gombak earlier today.

 

 

The picture on the left showed the game of round 7 between Muhd Syazwan and Hanif Basri of board 4. Syazwan played white and has the knight at g5 and white queen on h5. Black has lost the pawn on g7, the black king’s defender. The black bishop of g7 will soon fall and black’s defense fell quickly after that.

Ian Udani Wins IIU Open 2012

 

1 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur – The two-day IIU Chess Open 2012 ended with Ian Udani winning with a score of 7 points from 8 rounds. Yeoh Li Tian suffered a last round defeat to Kamaluddin Yusof on top board giving Kamaluddin Yusof an important one point and a score of 6.5 points.

Ian Udani was first, Second, Yeoh Li Tian, third, Kamaluddin Yusof, fourth, Nik Ahmad Farouqi and fifth, Jax Tham Tick Hong.

Yeoh Li Tian Leads IIU Invitational 2012

1 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur - Yeoh Li Tian was the leader after round 6 earlier this morning at the Kamal Hassan Hall of the ICT KULLIYAH, Islamic International University in Gombak.
Li Tian scored 5.5 points. He was still in the playing hall on top board playing against Nur Nabila bt Azman Hisham.

Jakovenko Declared European Individual Champion 2012!

1 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur – GM Dmitry Jakovenko (pix above) defeated GM Fressinet Laurent in the last and final round of the 13th European Individual Chess Championship 2012 giving him the winner’s rostrum and an unassailable 8.5 points. The other top boards drew their games and Jakovenko stood out alone on 8.5 points.
