Nik Mohd Nazri Wins USM Kubang Kerian Open

17th October 2010, Kubang Kerian – Nik Mohd Nazri, the top favorite, won easily with 6.0 full points from six rounds of rapid play at the USM Kubang Kerian Chess Open 2010.

In second place is Muhd Bakri Jusoh with 5.0 points failing to win against Nik Nazri in the fifth round and in third is Alif Omar Mohd Saufi with 5.0 points, losing only to Wan Muhd Amirul in the fifth round of play. Laila Husna Sahadi ended in 9th placing with 4.0 points. She lost twice, each to the two top seeds of the tournament.

16 October 2010, Kubang Kerian – There were 66 players participating in this year’s USM Kubang Kerian Chess Open category and on top board for round 4 is Nik Mohd Nazri Nik Hasan against Laila Husna Sahadi (G), both with 3 points.

Meanwhile on board 2 will be Wan Muhd Amirul Wan Yusuf against Muhd Bakri Jusoh (seeded 2) in round 4, and on board 3 will be Najihah Mohd Saufi against Alif Omar Mohd Saufi (seeded 10).

Kramnik Is Champion Of Bilbao Masters 2010

16 October 2010, Bilbao – GM Vladimir Kramnik has emerged as the Champion of the 3rd Bilbao Final Masters 2010 held from 9-15 October 2010. He now joins 2008 winner, V Topalov and last year’s winner, L Aronian on the list of winners of this tournament.

Yesterday’s games resulted in two more draws as follows:-

a. Shirov (Spain) – Kramnik (Russia) 1-1, 34 moves, 2 hours of play;

b. Anand (India) – Carlsen (Norway) 1-1, 50 moves, 4 hours of play.

Kramnik’s draw against Shirov was enough to give Kramnik the crowning glory of winning the 3rd Masters Final.

Top Efforts Of Olympiad Chess Teams Recognized

15 October 2010, Kuala Lumpur – In the StarOnline today, SS Quah’s gave due credit and recognition to all of the Malaysian men’s and women’s chess teams for their individual and collective efforts as a team for Malaysia. They did us proud for trying their level best at Khanty-Mansiysk, Siberia, Russia.

SS Quah also mentions that Alia Anin Bakri may be awarded the Women International Master (WIM) title for her gallant efforts with a 63.6% score. While Malaysia’s current national woman champion, Fong Mi Yen, may be awarded the Woman Candidate Master (WCM) title for her olympiad efforts with a 61.1% score.
