Sebag Draws In Fifth Round

7 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In the European Women’s Individual Chess Championship 2012 in Gaziantrep, Turkey, GM Sebag Marie drew on top board against IM Gunina Valentina of Russia. Three players are now jointly leading comprising of Sebag, Foisor and Hoang with 4.5 points after fifth round of the European Women’s Individual Chess Championship 2012.

During the fifth round, the Hungarian GM Hoang Thanh Trang checkmated WIM Ziaziulkina Natassia of Burundi on the third board. Hoang played black and checkmated white with a rook. White’s a-pawn captured black’s pawn on the 37th move, inadvertently opening the a-column for an attack by black leading to the checkmate position.

Here is the fifth round game between GM Kateryna Lahno of Ukraine and WGM Mihaela Sandu of Romania. Lahno playing black won the game. The position looks balanced but white surrendered with black ahead by a pawn.
