Final Round 9 results, ASEAN Age Group Chess Ch 2010, Subic

10 June 2010, Subic – Here are the latest round 9 results and their overall rankings after completing the ASEAN Age Group Chess Championship in Subic, Philippines. Amier Hamzah ends as third rank in his Open 10 category while Edward Lee finished with 5.5 points and in 6th ranked. Muhd Faqih Aminuddin finished in 18th place and with 4.0 points.

12th CAS – OCTAGON, 2nd Q Allegro Championship 2010

24 May 2010, Kuala Lumpur – The Second Quarter Allegro Chess Championship 2010 is coming this 13th June 2010. Here is the flyer again from Mr. Lim Tse Pin, secretary of Chess Assoc of Selangor. The original date was 20th June 2010 and the new date is now 13th June 2010. So take note of the date change!

GM Wins 5-0 In Chess Exhibition

10 June 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Last night the planned chess exhibition by GM Ziaur Rahman was nicely executed. Five players played against the GM with a time control of 60 minutes + 10 seconds for the GM and 30 minutes + 10 seconds for the players. All the Nusa Mahkota players and Siraj lost, of course, against the Malaysian-Resident GM. Result: GM Z Rahman 5-0 DATCC Selection.

10 June 2010, Kuala Lumpur – POLGAR Chess Asia is organising several chess workshops for beginners and intermediate levels during the current school holidays.

Holiday Chess Workshops
Mon & Tues (14 & 15 June) - Beginners Level 1 Workshop (for absolute beginners) - RM280 + 40 (for food, optional)
Wed & Thur (16 & 17 June) - Beginners Level 2 Workshop (Basic endgames and openings) - RM280 + 40 (for food, optional)

Kuantan Rapid Open 2010, 26-27 June 2010

10 June 2010, Kuantan - Annoucement made by Persatuan Catur Daerah Kuantan (PCDK), there will be a chess tournament held on the 26th - 27th June 2010 at Dewan KRT Berjaya Permai (the same venue where they had a tournament last August). It is an open event, where the champion will be awarded RM500 prize money!

The tournament will be a 7 rounds Swiss System with a time control of 30 minutes each. The entry fee will be :
Open
RM15 (PCDK member)
RM25 (Non-member)
U-12
RM10 (PCDK member)
RM20 (Non-member)

9 June 2010, Subic – Here are some random pictures from Haslindah Ruslan in Subic, Philippines on the on-going ASEAN Age Group Chess Championship 2010 happenings. BTW, for the information of chess enthusiasts in Malaysia, yesterday was a rest day at the ASEAN Age Group Chess Ch 2010. So there were no games held yesterday. The sixth round began 9 am this morning.

Amier Hamzah In 3rd Place, After 5 Rounds

7 June 2010, Subic – Amier Hamzah of Malaysia is unbeaten up to round 5 of the Open Under AmierHamzah 10 category of the 11th Asean Age Group Chess Championship 2010 in Subic, Philippines and has 4.0 points and currently in third position behind Tin Jingyao of Singapore and CM Tabatabaei M Amin of Iran.

Let’s hope Amier Hamzah (pix left) continues this consistent form and finish in the top two or three of the tournament. To get a FM title, he will need to finish tops in the group and if he finishes in second place, he will earn the CM title. Let’s see if he can achieve one of the two titles.

While Muhd Faqih Aminuddin of Malaysia is progressing fairly okay with 2 points from five rounds of play in the Open Under 8 category. He is playing Huynh Minh Chien of Vietnam in the sixth round of the tournament.

Maisarah still has one point in the Under 8 girls category, Nur Faqihah has 1.5 points so far in the Under 10 girls category. Meanwhile Lim Win Sen has 1.5 points in the Under 14 Open category up to the fifth round, while in the Open Under 20 category, Edward Lee has 3.5 points from five rounds and is in fourth place currently. The other Malaysian contestants in the Open Under 20 category are doing fairly mixed, where Tariq Muhd Amru has 2.0 points and Mark Siew is stuck with 1.0 point still. Mark has a bye in the sixth round.

Asean Age Group Chess Ch 2010, Subic

6 June 2010, Subic – In the Under 20 Open category, Edward Lee Kim Han had a draw in the TariqAmru third round while Tariq Amru (pix left) won his third but Mark Siew maintains with one point still. Meanwhile Lim Win Sen gains a half point from his third round in the Under 14 Open Category.

In the Under 10 Open Category, Amier Hamzah has 2.5 points from three rounds. Wow! Not bad, Amier! Keep it up! Keep the Malaysian flag flying in this category.

Muhd Faqih Aminuddin finally gets a win in the third round of the Under 8 Open category  and is playing Placencia Kurt John of the Philippines.

Meanwhile Nur Faqihah bt Aminuddin is still without any points on the board after three rounds in the Under 10 girls category and Maisarah manages one point after a win in her third round play. Maisarah is placed 9th out of ten players currently.
