Indian prodigy GM Negi Parimarjan (left) stopped erstwhile solo leader GM Yu Yangyi of China (right) to grab the lead alone with 5 points after 6 rounds of the Asian Continental Championship. Negi used the Sicilian Defense and survived a sacrificial attack by Yu. The Indian teenager emerged a piece up after the skirmish and forced an exchange of Queens and resignation on the 51st move.

Yu had a fierce attack against Negi's King in the center which collapsed with Negi a piece up. At left is the position after 33.Qe5-f6 when Negi turned the tables around with 33... Rg8! and mating threats appeared on White's back rank. Negi won the Knight and forced an exchange of Queens and Rooks to transpose to a winning endgame. Negi describes the play in the video report.

Eight men trail a half point behind. With 4.5 points each are Yu, Filipinos John Paul Gomez, Oliver Barbosa and Mark Paragua, Chinese IM Liu Qingnan and GMs Ding Liren and Lu Shanglei, and GM Salem A. R. Saleh of the United Arab Emirates.
