Dimakiling Ahead In Penang Open 2011

9 December 2011, Kuala Lumpur – At the 3rd Penang Heritage City International Chess Open 2011, Dimakiling (pix 1) is way ahead with a score of 7.5 points, a full point ahead of his nearest rivals, IM Nguyen (pix 2) and fellow countryman, Olay Edgar Reggie, both with 6.5 points after the 8th round of play.

It looks almost certain that IM Dimakiling Oliver of the Philippines would return as the defending Champion of this year’s Penang Open 2011. Nobody can stop him now.

Earlier in the morning, 7th round, IM Dimakiling, the defending champion, defeated Malaysia’s IM Mas Hafizulhelmi (pix 3) on top board.

In round 9, IM Dimakiling meets with NM Tan Khai Boon (pix 4) of Malaysia, who happens to be the highest scoring Malaysian chess player after round 8 with 6 points. IM Mas Hafizulhelmi of Malaysia plays the top seed, IM Nguyen Van Huy of Vietnam on second board.
