9 January 2011, Kuala Lumpur – At the DATCC today, the 17 ChessClub Open 2011, a one-day, 7 Swiss rounds of rapid play was held. 54 players participated in the event.
Abdullah Che Hassan finally nailed the 17 ChessClub Open 2011 by winning the tournament with a 6.0/7 points and superior tie-break points. He beat Muhd Taufik Azman, Razali Hamzah, Muhd Syazwan Zulkifli, Norizzudin Afendi Norazman, Ahmad Fadzil Nayan, Nor Ilhamuddin Shaik Ali and Mohd Saprin Sabri on his way to the winning rostrum. Hopefully winning this open would compensate for his earlier disappointment at IIUM Invitational Open just a week ago in Gombak, Kuala Lumpur. In that tournament he finished in 11th placing.
In second place was won by Ian Udani, also with 6.0 points. Ian lost to Mohd Saprin Sabri in the 5th round. For chess enthusiasts, Ian Udani is the IIUM Invitational Chess Open champion held last week. In third place, also with 6.0 points is Ahmad Fadzil Nayan of UIAM. Fadzil lost to Ian Udani in the final 7th round today.
