31st December 2010, Kuala Lumpur – At the 53rd Torneo di Capodanno in Reggio Emilia, Italy, Nigel Short is leading with two wins. In the second round of the Italian chess tournament, Nigel Short beat Alexander Morozevich of Russia. While Navara beat Caruana in a Sicilian Defense opening of the second round play.

Local Italian GM Caruana lost to GM David Navara of Czech Republic. David Navara got a nice positional advantage on the white side of a Sicilian against Fabiano Caruana and brought this home for a win. The Sicilian Defense opening transpired.
