Mok Meets Kasimdzhanov, Round 1, Asian Games 2010

MokTzeMeng 12 November 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Tomorrow Malaysia’s IM Mok Tze Meng (pix left) will meet GM Rustam Kasimdzhanov (pix below) of Uzbekistan in the first round of the individual men’s event. Kazimdzhanov was the FIDE World Champion in 2004 and he won against Garry Kasparov in a six-game match of the World Chess Championship 2004.

Competition will be in Men and Women Sections. Individual Competiton 13th – 16th November as rapid games with 25 Min and 10 Seconds increment for each player.
Team Competition 17th - 26th November 2010, time control will be 90 minutes + 30 Seconds increment for each move.

Meanwhile WFM Alia Anin Azwa will meet GM Zhu Chen of Qatar in the Women Individual and WCM Nur Nabila will face-off with Vietnamese, WIM Pham Le Thao Nguyen in the first round of the Women Individual event.

Alia’s first round opponent, Zhu Chen of Qatar was the World Junior Chess Champion in 1994 and 1996. She is married to GM Mohamad Al-Modiakhi of Qatar. At the age of 25, she defeated GM Alexandra Kosteniuk in the 2001/2002 World’s Women Chess Championship, 5-3, to become the 11th champion.
