With this information published, it is hoped the tide for information on “norms” achieved will subside from readers or from affected players. Congratulations to all players who achieved their “norms”. All enquiries please refer to Najib Wahab, arbiter for the event.

  1. How about Ian Udani, ada kata dia pun dapat IM norm?

  2. Hairul, you need to ask arbiter that. I had the same thots initially. According to the chief arbiter, after the full nine rounds of play were completed, Ian's name was not generated in the final report for the IM norms achieved. The chief arbiter depends on the report generated by the computer system. And the final report by the computer did not show his name (Ian Udani) based on some reasoning by the computer. That's the whole nine yards of story, Hairul. :)

  3. Hairul, further to that, Najib gave me a second call to explain that in order for someone to secure the "norm" he has acquired in the first eight rounds of FIDE-rated play, one needs to either draw or win the last ninth round! Otherwise, his norm is completely wiped out! :))

  4. Wow, thats news to me that someone got to win or at least draw on the last 9th round to get the norm.

Based on my calculation after round 8, i was dead sure that Ian Udani would secure his IM norm even if he lose last round.

    I was wrong.

And also i thought Sethumaran from India would have secure his 3rd GM norm.

    I was wrong again.

Thanks for the report and info.

I hope i will be in DATMO 2011 if it will be held.
