Magnus Carlsen Wins The Corus 2010, Netherlands

Magnus Carlsen wins the Corus 2010 at Wijk aan Zee in the Netherlands with 8.5 points from 13 rounds of play. The 19 year old Norwegian was able to fend off super grandmasters at the tournament. Despite losing a round to Kramnik, Carlsen continued to win his fifth major tournament.

The other major tournaments that Carlsen had an impact were 1st at Nanjing Pearl Spring, China, 2nd at Tal Memorial in Moscow, then he captured the World Blitz Crown, followed by a 1st at London Chess Classic and now a 1st at Corus Wijk aan Zee in the Netherlands for the year 2010. Early leader Shirov had a winning position but accepted a draw in the dying seconds of his last round game against Cuba’s Lenier Dominguez.
