India A men team emerges as sole leader
Kolkata, 24th December, 2009
India A emerged as the sole leader with 6 points in the men’s section after the 3rd round of the Tata Steel Asian Team Chess Championship at Town Hall in Kolkata on Thursday. The seven round Swiss league event is being organised by Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy and All Sport Management.
India A once against justified their top billing by inflicting a crushing blow to the overnight joint leaders Indonesia, who lost on 3 boards. Low rated Anjas Novita held GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly, which was the only consolation for the Indonesian team. Vietnam and Iran trail India A a point behind on 5 points each.
The all GM Vietnam team made short work of the India B team who lost their 2nd consecutive match to stay on 2 points. The Iranian men’s team too won comfortably against Singapore to stay near the top.
In the women’s section India A and Vietnam shared the honours to retain their position at the top. Both have 5 points and are followed by Iran on 4 points.
