Further Round 3, 2nd DATCC Chess League 2009 Results

DATCC Chess League Results: Round 3 (24th November 2009)

Tan and Tan 0, Price WaterHouse Coopers 4

DATCC 1,  Nusa Mahkota 3

X-Factor 31/2, 17Chess Club 1/2

EON Bank Bhd 0, Caviaga 4

Team AU 4, Storm Warriors 0

Caviaga established themselves as strong favourites to win the 2nd DATCC Chess League with an emphatic 4- 0 win over EON Bank. Regulars  and former Nusa Mahkota players, Nor Ilhamuddin and Abdul Aziz Shukor, are no match for IM Lim Yee Weng and newly installed DATCC individual champion Abdullah Che Hassan, losing respectively to them. The much expected tough encounter between Prabha and Nik Ahmad Faruqi also failed to materialise as Prabha lost a piece and eventually the game.

X-Factor, an unknown identity in earlier rounds suddenly pushed to the spotlight with an almost total annihilation of 17 Chess Club if not, for a simple error by Sri Shiva in the last moves . He ended up with a draw but teammates IM-designate Mok Tze Meng, Dr Paul and Premnath were not in such a charitable mood to score wins over the opponents

Nusa Mahkota, who was expected to win 4 nil, dropped 1 point   when the only female in the round 3 matches , NWM Roslina Marmono of DATCC drew  with Rizal. Shamsul of Nusa Mahkota also drew with Yat Guo Jie. Captain of Nusa Mahkota team, Hairul Abdul Hamid could not play due to other urgent matters and the affable Razali Ng6 played board 4 and surprisingly won against IA Najib Wahab  who sacrificed a piece for 2 pawns but could not see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Price Waterhouse Coopers had an easy time against a weakened Tan and Tan winning 4 nil. Tan and Tan, top players, IM Giam, IM Tan Lian Han, NM Choo, Bernard Ng and Subramaniam were not available.

Team AU encountered some early resistance against young  UM outfits Storm Warriors but the more experienced FM Ooi Chern Ee, Fairin Zakaria, Jax Tham and  debutant Irman Ibrahim  finally pulled through.
