Anton Korobov Leads In Moscow Aeroflot Chess Open 2012

11 February 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Chessbase.com reports that The 11th Aeroflot Open is taking place in Moscow from February 7 to 15, 2012. Top seeds are Evgeny Tomashevsky, Fabiano Caruana, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Le Quang Liem, Francisco Vallejo Pons and Baadur Jobava, Krishnan Sasikiran, all ranked 2700 or higher.

After the fourth round of the Aeroflot Open, GM Anton Korobov of Ukraine is in the lead with 3.5 points. Trailing behind him are a bunch of GMs with 3.0 points among them are GM Denis Khismatulin of Russia , GM Ivan Sokolov of Netherlands and GM Bu Xiangzhi of China. Meanwhile GM Caruana of Italy has dropped to 25th ranked with 2.5 points to show so far.

Tourney mode: Open tourney 9 rounds Swiss System. Time control: 100 minutes/40 moves + 50 minutes/20 moves + 15 minutes + 30 seconds/move starting with the first move. Game start:all rounds 12:00 (15:00 local Moscow time). Tiebreak systems: For tournament A and B: 1st: The number of games played with Black. Byes and forfeited games will be considered as games played with White. 2nd: The average of the opponents' ratings minus the highest and the lowest rating.

Here is the critical round 4 game between Anton Korobov of Ukraine and Fabiano Caruana of Italy giving Korobov the win and the current leadership of the Moscow Aeroflot Open 2012 category A. The Benko/Volga Gambit opening transpired during the game and was won by white.
