Five Reasons To Know Something About Everything in the Chess Openings

1. You need to be knowledgeable in order to make meaningful move choices;
2. Transpositions (shifting from one opening to another) take place frequently;
3. Ideas from one opening game can be applied to other similar openings;
4. Sometimes you reach a position in an opening with "colors reversed"- for instance, when White plays the English (1. c4) and Black responds with 1. ... e5, both players can find themselves in a "Reversed Sicilian".
5. One can improve one's overall play by practicing in different kinds of middlegame positions resulting from various openings.

Grand Asia Chess Challenge 2019

20th Nov 2018, Kuala Lumpur - The University of Malaya is organising the 23rd Grand Asia Chess Challenge (GACC) 2019 from 26 January - 2 Feb 2019 at Dewan Tunku Canselor, University of Malaya Kuala Lumpur.

There is the Inter Varsity, Open and Team Chess categories, Age Group Chess and Blitz Chess during the week long event.

Teh Beng Teik Takes Over Leadership, 3rd NMA-SG U2000 International Tournament 2018

19 Nov 2018, Kuala Lumpur - After the round 6 has settled, Teh Beng Teik is now the new leader with 5.5 points with a win over Buchin Che Lah on top board.

A close second is youngster, Poh Yu Tian, aged 9 years old won on second board over Indonesian, Cahyadi.
