Le draws Round 3, Game 4, FIDE World Cup 2013

19th August 2013, Kuala Lumpur – Another marathon game 4 in round 3 with the game drawn between Le Quang Liem of Vietnam and Alexander Grischuk as the 50 move rule without any wins on the board after all pawns disappear from the board. Le goes through to the fourth round of the Knock-out format of the FIDE World Cup 2013 with a 2.5-1.5 win over Grischuk. This also means Le carries the only Asian flag to the next round in the World Cup 2013.

Le Quang Liem played a superb game 3, round 3

19th August 2013, Kuala Lumpur - GM Le Quang Liem of Vietnam played a superb rapid game 3 in round 3 against the World Rapid Champion, GM Alexander Grischuk of Russia. Le is leading 2-1 at the moment. Grischuk resigned in a close end game with his time running down and Le in a strong race to promoting his b-pawn. Black had two rooks and two pawns against white’s rook and knight and single pawn.

Alexander Grischuk wins second game in round 3, FIDE World Cup 2013

19th August 2013, Kuala Lumpur - Marathon game between Alexander Grischuk of Russia and Le Quang Liem of Vietnam in Round 3, Game 2 in the FIDE World Cup 2013 in Tromso, Norway. It is now 1-1 after Grischuk wins the second game with the white pieces.

The Week-In-Chess website reported that the final game to finish was Alexander Grischuk against Le Quang Liem where the Russian ground on and on in a slightly favourable position in the attempt to get the win he needed to go to level the match. Grischuk down on the clock and having to give up a pawn suddenly got chances when the draw seemed likely and eventually won in 154 moves.

Marfori Philippines declared winning team at ASTRO Merdeka Team 2013

18th August 2013, Kuala Lumpur – The Marfori Philippines chess team won the ASTRO Merdeka Team 2013 event with 17 MP and 31 Board Points. Second, KL Chesskids Team A with 16 MP and 27.5 Board Points and third, Jakarta Baru Chess Club with 14 MP and 26.5 Board Points. The Mayor of Kuala Lumpur City Hall did the honours.
