Nur Najiha, Teh De Juan winners at KUSESS 2013

9 July 2013, Kuala Lumpur - In Kuala Selangor the KUSESS Chess Tournament 2013 was held over two days, 6-7 July 2013, last weekend. Nur Najiha bt Azman Hisham (pix below in yellow jacket) of Selangor won the U-18 category with 7.5 points beating 201 other players from eight states (Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Sabah, Kedah, Perak, Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu). Sister Nur Nabila bt Azman Hisham came in second with a similar high score of 7.5 points.

Meanwhile Teh De Juan of Penang won with 7.5 points beating 126 other players in the U-12 age category. Only two states participated in this category, namely Selangor and Penang.

FIDE Grand Prix in Beijing 2013

8 July 2013, Kuala Lumpur - The FIDE Grand Prix Beijing takes place 4th to 16th July 2013. Opening ceremony 3rd July. Players: Boris Gelfand, Anish Giri, Alexander Grischuk, Vassily Ivanchuk, Gata Kamsky, Sergey Karjakin, Peter Leko, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Alexander Morozevich, Veselin Topalov, Hao Wang, Yue Wang. After round 4, Sergey Karjakin of Russia is leading with 3.5 points.

The official website of the tournament reported that the fourth round of Grand Prix in Beijing started with a quick draw between two Russian players Sergey Karjakin and Alexander Grischuk.  Sergey Karjakin keeps on leading half a point ahead of his nearest rival Shakhriyar Mamedyarov who outplayed Wang Hao today. Alexander Morozevich and Wang Yue won their first games in the tournament.  The games Giri-Leko and Topalov-Ivanchuk were drawn.

8th of July is a free day. The fifth round will start on 9th of July at 3 p.m. local time.

Here is a game of round 3 between Karjakin and Morozevich during the FIDE GP in Beijing, China. Karjakin won this game with the black pieces.

Wong Jianwen Wins Allegro Cat 1

7 July 2013, Kuala Lumpur – The 14th CAS Second Quarter Allegro for the Category 1 was won by Wong Jianwen with a score of 6.0 points today. Forty-nine players participated in this category 1 chess event.

Second, Ronnie Lim with 6.0 points, third, Mohd Faisal Roslan with 5.5 points.

Ahmad Fadzil Wins Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng Perak GP Championship 2013 (Open)

3 July 2013, Kuala Lumpur – In Ipoh, Perak, The Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng Perak Grand Prix Chess Championship took place at the Syuen Hotel last Sunday, 30 June 2013. Ahmad Fadzil Nayan, the Asian Master, won by scoring 5.5 points from 6 rounds. He beat 31 others in the Open category. Second, NM Tan Khai Boon with 5.0 points and third, Fong Yit Ho with 4.5 points.

Second Quarter Allegro on 7th July 2013

4th May 2013, Kuala Lumpur – (Repost-26 June 2013) - The General Elections 2013 is now long over and the Chess Association of Selangor (CAS) wishes to remind chess players of the upcoming Second Quarter Allegro Chess Championship 2013 to be held on 7th July 2013.

It will be a two-category tournament with 7 rapid rounds of 20 mins time control plus 10 seconds increment. Prize fund is raised to RM3,000 from RM1,800 previously. Both Category 1 (NR>1400) and Category 2 (NR<1400) will have the same equivalent prizes.

2nd Juniors Open Chess Tournament 2013 at Summit USJ

24 June 2013, Kuala Lumpur - The Organiser, The Summit USJ, has decided to continue to hold the Juniors Open Chess Tournament @ Summit USJ after a maiden success held last November 2012. This one day tournament is divided into 4 categories namely Under-10, Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 and more importantly will be a National-rated Event. The One and Only National-rated Event in Selangor on 30th June 2013.

These 4 categories shall have an accumulated cash prize of RM 2,000 to be distributed among 40 prizewinners. The Champion in each Category shall be receiving RM 150 Cash + Medal + Certificate of Achievements. The entry fee for each person is RM 15 only (Among the lowest entry fee charges for a National-rated event).

The organisers accept limited entries only due to space constrain, so you need to pre-register yourself as quickly as possible by sending an email to tsepin@gmail.com stating down your name, H/P Number  and category that you wish to contest. All entries will be accepted based on "first comes first serve basis with payment received" followed by "first comes first serve basis on pre-registration".

Ian Udani wins 1st Ketayong Classic 2013

24 June 2013, Kuala Lumpur – The First Ketayong Chess Classic 2013 was held last weekend at DATCC in Kuala Lumpur with 26 players participating.

Ian Udani finished the two-day tournament with a score of 5.0 points and the champion. Second place went to Kamaluddin Yusof with 4.5 points and third, Fong Yit Ho. Fourth, Chek Kin Keuw and fifth Muhd Syazwan Zulkifli with a score of 4.0 points.
