London GP 2012, Round 2 Results

23 Sep 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In London, two definitive results of round 2 were wins by Peter Leko over Ivanchuk and GM Nakamura over GM Kasimdzhanov. Other boards were drawn.

 

Here is the round 2 game between GM Peter Leko and GM Vassily Ivanchuk during the London Grand Prix 2012. The official website reported that Vasily Ivanchuk started his tournament with the black pieces twice in a row. The Ukrainian GM decided to go for the "French defence". It's well known that Vasily can play any opening against anyone! By taking the control of the "d4" square, it appeared that Leko had the situation under control. Peter mentioned after the game that the decisive mistakes of Ivanchuk were 32...Kf7 and 33...hxg5. The position was hopeless for Ivanchuk who resigned after 42 moves.

Round 9, KL Open – Some early results

23 Sep 2012, Kuala Lumpur – At the Olympic Sports Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, the final ninth round of the DYTM Raja Nazrin Shah International Open Chess Championship 2012 is being held. Already on chess-results.com, some results are filtering in. IM Dableo Ronald of Philippines beat FM Lim Zhuo Ren of Malaysia, Masruri Rahman beats GM Ziatdinov Raset, Legaspi Rhobel beats G Vinod, Attwood James drew with GM Wong Meng Kong of Singapore.

Fong Yit San lost to Rom Jasper B, Ding Tze How Dilwen lost to Noguchi Koji on board 23. WFM Nur Najiha of Malaysia won against Chan Yi Meng Ryan on board 28.

Top eight boards no result as yet at 12.00 noon.

GM Tiviakov Sergei looks set to win and is the top favorite to win today. He meets IM Nguyen Van Huy of Vietnam on top board of round 9. Five players are on 6 points. The group comprise of IM Nguyen Van Huy, GM Paragua Mark, GM Barbosa Oliver, GM Cao Sang and IM Nguyen Duc Hoa. Based on rankings, GM Cao Sang is ranked second below GM Tiviakov Sergei, Netherlands.

FIDE Grand Prix London 2012

21 Sep 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Here is the round 1 pairings of the FIDE Grand Prix London 2012. The official website reported that the first stage of the new FIDE Grand Prix will be held in London between the 20^th September and 4^th of October 2012.
Twelve top Grandmasters will launch an exciting series of six events with the first tournament being held in London. The City will be the centre of attention for the next two weeks as AGON organises a top chess event which forms part of the new World Championship cycle.
The organisers have had to effect a last minute replacement as GM Peter Svidler has had to withdraw from this leg due to family reasons. He has been replaced by UK number one player GM Michael Adams. The list of the twelve participating players are as follows:-

Azarya Jodi jumps to second rank – DYTM Raja Nazrin Shah International Open

21 Sep 2012, Kuala Lumpur – At the end of yesterday’s round 6 of the DYTM Raja Nazrin Shah International Open Chess Championship 2012 being held at the Olympic Sports Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, the top seed Tiviakov Sergei continues to lead on the leaderboard.

However, Indonesian youngster, Azarya Jodi Setyaki, the pride of Djoni Chess, has scored five points after six rounds and is in equal first with the Netherlands top seed. The latest victim was one IM from India, Vishnu Prasanna V. This Indonesia junior is a former student of the Indonesia chess school Sekolah Catur Utut Ardianto, SCUA. Azarya has also scalped another titled chess player from Philippines, IM Ronald Dableo during round 5. He also beat WGM Padmini Rout of India in the earlier rounds.

The Kuantan Finale Tournament of the year!

The top five winners of each tournament held by Kuantan Setia Chess club during the whole year 2012 will qualify for the grand finale called SCC Grand Prix Serie D.

FIDE Women GP Ankara 2012

18 Sep 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Ankara, Turkey the Turkey leg of the FIDE Women Grand Prix has started on Sunday, 16 Sep 2012. Two rounds of play has been played and the results are shown below.

WGM Ruan Lufei of China is leading after winning both first two rounds of the Grand Prix in Ankara.

The official website reported that the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix second round started on 17 September. Ankara is very hot these days but the participants seem to get accustomed to the weather conditions and came to the playing hall in good mood. TCF board member Askin Keles made the first symbolic move in the game between Tatiana Kosinsteva and Antoaneta Stefanova. He chose move 1.d4 which impressed both players very much as Tatiana normally doesn’t play it. After small discussion Mr. Keles made the move 1.e4 and game continued.

The game Humpy Koneru - Zhao Xue finished in a draw after three-time repetition comparatively quickly. The acting Olympic Champion Tatiana Kosintseva made the second draw in a row against the former World Champion Antoaneta Stefanova. Another draw of the second round was in the game Anna Muzychuk of Slovenia against the Mongolian Munguntuul Batkhuyag. A surprising victory of the Turkish chess player Betul Yildiz against the Latvian Grandmaster and rating favorite in the match Viktoria Cmilyte was followed later on. Another Turkish player Kubra Ozturk was defeated by Chinese player Ju Wenjun. Polish player Monica Socko was trying to hold worse endgame but after long struggle was outplayed by Chinese player Ruan Lufei.

KL Open Begins Today!

18 Sep 2012, Kuala Lumpur – The DYTM Raja Nazrin Shah International Open Chess Championship 2012 had begun today with two rounds of play at the Olympic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Eighty two players are participating in this year’s edition of the renamed Kuala Lumpur Open. GM Tiviakov Sergei of the Netherlands is the top seed and he has won two rounds today. WGM Padmini Rout of India was his second round victim.

Final Ranking Stonemaster Amateur Tournament 2012

17 Sep 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Here is the final ranking list for the top 25 players who participated in the Sunday’s chess tournament called Stonemaster Amateur Chess Championship 2012 held at the Arthur Tan Chess Center, Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur on the 16th September 2012.

A total of 231 players participated in the chess tournament and Zafran Khalis Mokhtar Azizi scored 7.5 points and declared the winner of the Stonemaster Amateur 2012. His tournament rating performance was an incredible 1858!

In second place, Wong Kiiug Lik, also scored 7.5 points. Third, Muhd Anas Hussaini Khairuddin, Fourth, Mohamed Hafizee b Mohamed Nordi
