26 October 2011, Kuala Lumpur – In round 3 of the World Youth Under 16 Chess Olympiad in Turkey, Malaysia meets with team A of United Arab Emirates.

Latest News: Malaysia won 3-1 against UAE Team A after Li Tian on board 2 and Roshan Singh on board 4 won their games with both Jianwen and Elgin getting draws.

India Win Over Malaysia, World Youth

26 October 2011, Kuala Lumpur – In Turkey, India the favourites to win in round 2 took a commanding lead by white washing Malaysia 4-0. All four boards played by Yeoh Li Tian, Elgin, Eng Chiam and Roshan Ajeet Singh had their hands full playing against India’s IM and two FMs.

The official website in Turkey reported that 2011 World Youth Under 16 Chess Olympiad's second round finished at 14.10 pm. After the second game, Armenian Team won against Moldova with a 4-0 score and leading in the olympiad with 7.5 points. Indian Team placed second after the 4-0 victory against Malaysia. Azerbaijan, Russia and Georgia are trailing behind the leaders with 6.5 points. The third round of the Olympiad will be played at 16.00 pm.

Here is a game between IM S Grover of India against Malaysia’s Yeoh Li Tian on first board. The Caro-Kann Opening transpired during the game. After white played 38.Rxf6, and if black played 38….Nxf6, then white will play 39. Ng6+ a double attack on King and Queen. If black plays 38… Qg8, black loses a piece and the white can save his rook with Rg6.

Petronas Seahorse Took Early Lead

25 October 2011, Kuala Lumpur - Let's get updated with the first round team results held last Saturday, 22nd October 2011 at DATCC.



Petronas Seahorse did well to win their first round game against Bernama Chess Team with a 4-0 result. DATCC Seniors Team and Nusa Mahkota Chess Club came away 3.5 winners, while Najib's Rojak Team and Too Less Ordinary had 3-1 wins over their opponents. Kelantan Chess Team had their hands full against 17 Chess Club, even though they have IM MAS on their team. Kelantan turn out a 2.5 point winner.

25 October 2011, Kuala Lumpur – In Turkey, the World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad is taking place and Malaysia is participating in the team event. Malaysia won three boards to win 3-1 against South Africa team B last night. Yeoh Li Tian (pix top), Elgin, and Yeap Eng Chiam made sure team Malaysia won.

Malaysia will now face off with third ranked team India in round two.

Malaysia Meets South Africa Team B – Round 1

24 October 2011, Kuala Lumpur – After the opening ceremony of the World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad in Turkey, team Malaysia will meet the 23rd ranked team from South Africa – Team B.

The board pairings are as shown in the table below:-

On paper, Malaysia should win easily this first round game. We wish you luck boys! May the force be with you! Win the round 1 for us!

Malaysian Team in Turkey

24 October 2011, Kuala Lumpur - Latest News: The Malaysian squad left for Izmit, Turkey for the World Youth Under 16 Chess Olympiad at 10 AM, 23rd October. The squad consists of Roshan Singh, Jianwen, Eng Chiam, Elgin and Li Tian. The Team Manager is Mr.Lee Ewe Ghee. The send off at KLIA was officiated by ex-MCF Deputy President, Tuan Haji Ibrahim Abu Bakar.

There will be 27 teams participating this year. Russia is ranked first with an average rating of 2455, followed by Azerbaijan (second) with rating of 2361 and India with a rating of 2351. Malaysia is ranked 10th with an average FIDE rating of 2058. There will be three GM's and three IM's with numerous FMs participating in the Under 16 Chess Olympiad this year.

23 October 2011, Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia is participating in this year’s World Youth Under 16 Chess Olympiad being held in  Kocaeli, Turkey. The Malaysian chess team is ranked 10th comprising of Wong Jianwen, Ajeet Singh Roshan, Yeap Eng Chiam, Lee Kah Meng Elgin and Yeoh Li Tian.

27 countries are participating and Russian chess team is ranked first with Malaysia ranked 10th.
