First GM Thematic Tournament

23 April 2011, Kuala Lumpur - At the spanking new Taylor's University campus in Sunway near the LDP Toll Plaza, the First GM thematic chess tournament was held. Today five rounds will be played with the Ruy Lopez as the theme.

Round 1 Results, Malaysian Chess Trials 2011

23 April 2011, Kuala Lumpur - Here are the round one results of the Malaysian Team Chess Selection Trials at DATCC, Kuala Lumpur. IM MAS was stretched to the limits by NM Kamalariffin Wahiduddin last night and finished at midnight with a win to IM MAS.

MCF Selection Trials Begins Today!

22 April 2011, Kuala Lumpur - The MCF Selection event is scheduled to start today with Round 1 to clock off at 7:00pm. Whilst DATCC will be the official venue for the event, the venue will shift to a different site only for Sunday, 24^th April (for Round 4 and 5) as DATCC will be hosting the PERCAWI Labour Day event.

The event will shift back to DATCC for Round 6 and 7 scheduled on 7^th May followed by Round 8 and 9 to be held the next day on 8^th May. The break in the scheduling is to accommodate the SELANGOR OPEN event which has been scheduled from 29^th April to 2^nd May 2011 at DATCC as well.

Malaysia’s SEA Games 2011 Selection

21 April 2011, Kuala Lumpur – The Malaysian Chess Federation website has announced details of the Malaysia chess team selection trials and it has set the coming weekend 22-24 April 2011 and 7-8 May 2011 as the selection period of the men’s and women’s chess team to the SEA Games in Indonesia later this year.

Kamsky, Hess’s Round 6 Games, US Championship 2011

21 April 2011, Kuala Lumpur – Here are three games from the on-going US Chess Championship 2011 being held at the Saint Louis Chess Club and Scholastic Center, Saint Louis, USA.

The Week In Chess reported that GM Robert Hess and IM Irina Krush kept up their winning streaks in round six of the U.S. Championship and U.S. Women's Championship, respectively. In the penultimate round of preliminary play, Hess won his fourth game in a row and Krush her fifth. They have both become the first two players to automatically qualify for the semifinals in each tournament. The events are taking place from April 14-28 at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis.

The first game involves Group A and GM Gata Kamsky’s game against Daniel Naroditsky in round 6 of the US Championship 2011. Gata Kamsky played black. The Caro-Kann Advanced Variation opening transpired during the game.

 

 After black played 57…Rd4, white resigned, 0-1.

Kamsky, Hess, Krush Ahead In US Championship

21 April 2011, Kuala Lumpur - Here are the cross-table results of the Men's and Women's U.S. Championship 2011 after round 5. In Group A, Kamsky and Shulman are in joint first with 3.5 points. While in Group B,  Robert Hess is ahead with 4.0 points. Meanwhile in the women's, Irina Krush takes sole lead with four consecutive wins after losing the first round to Foisor.

Nabila, Jax Wins Excel FIDE-Rated April 2011

 

20 April 2011, Kuala Lumpur – At the Excel Chess Academy, Nur Nabila Azman Hisham (top right) won the Alpha Group with 9.5 points from 11 rounds and Jax Tham (top left) won the Beta Group with 8 points in the Excel FIDE-Rated Tournament April 2011 held over three weekends.

Top 20 Most Improved April 2011

 

19 April 2011, Kuala Lumpur – The recently released list for the Top 20 Most Improved for April 2011 had a slight correction. It had Puteri Rifqah’s name appearing twice in the list and some keen readers had alerted Mr. Lim Tse Pin about the small error and it has been duly addressed.

All the other names remain the same with Puteri Rifqah Fahada Azhar (top pix) at number 5 and number 20 is taken up by Chee Kitt Win with a new rating of 1311 from 1164.

Venue Change For Perlis Open/Gula Open

17 April 2011, Kuala Lumpur – An annoucement from the organiser of the Perlis Open on the 30th April 2011 and the Gula Open on the 1st May 2011 about the change of venue.

Syaiful Zamani says that “First of all I would like to thank you for your kind co-operation to promote this event in your blog/website. However please be informed that the venue is changed from Dewan Warisan to Dewan Belia, Kangar (in front of Hospital Tuanku Fauziah).

Since the new venue is smaller in size, it can only accommodate up to 200 participants only.

Therefore it's highly advisable for all interested participants to complete their registration for both tournaments as early as possible as seats are limited.

Once again, I would like to ask for your kind co-operation announce the changes in your blog/website. Please accept my sincere gratitude for your support towards making the tournaments a success.”
