Tebrau open: Johor Chess Academy, Rukun Tetangga Sri Tebrau, Rakan Muda Johor Baru and Johor Baru Chess Association are organising the 21st Tebrau open chess tournament at the Plaza Pelangi in Johor Baru on Sunday. DATCC Razzmatazz: The Datuk Arthur Tan Chess Centre is organising its third DATCC razzmatazz rapidchess weekender at Wilayah Complex, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Kuala Lumpur, on Sunday. Merdeka Rapid events: The Merdeka individual rapid open tournament will be played on Aug 28 and the Merdeka team rapid open tournament from Aug 29-31. Both events will be held at the Cititel hotel ballroom in Mid Valley Megamall, Kuala Lumpur. Closing date for entries is Aug 10. For the individual rapid event, entry fees are RM20 for players below 16 and RM30 for others. For the team rapid event, entry fees are RM300 for four-player teams and RM375 for five-player teams. Caruana Wins Biel!
30 July 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Caruana of Italy won the playoffs at Biel, Switzerland after there was a three-way tie between Vachier, Caruana and Truong Son for first place with 5.5 points each.
In the playoffs, Caruana first played Vachier of France and won the Armageddon games and then he met Truong Son over two 10-minute games which he drew one and won the other.

25 July 2010, Teluk Intan – Here is one picture courtesy of Gilachess at Datcc’s blog. Gilachess is helping out with the running of the Teluk Intan leg of the Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng Perak Chess Grandprix rapids held at his own alma-meter school St Anthony School.

The 16-year-old Bacoor, Cavite whiz kid yielded to Italian GM Fabio Caruana after 49 moves of Slav Defense using the disadvantageous black pieces.
The loss dropped So from the top of the leaderboard as he remains with 3.0 points good for a tie for 2nd to 5th places in the company of Russians GM Evgeny Tomashevsky and GM Dmitry Andreikin and GM Maxim Rodshtein of Israel.
Caruana, on the other hand seized the solod lead with 3.5 points.
In other results, Rodshtein toppled GM Anish Giri of the Netherlands, Tomashevsky split the point with GM David Howell of England, GM Parimarjan Negi of India settled for a draw with GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son of Vietnam and Andrekin drew with GM Maxime Vachier-Lagreve of France.

Karpov In Kuala Lumpur!
19 July 2010, Kuala Lumpur - It is confirmed! GM Anatoly Karpov, 12th World Chess Champion and Candidate for FIDE President will be in KL from 19th July until 21st July 2010. GM Karpov, who is on his campaigning tour of South East Asia will be arriving tonight at KLIA at 10:00pm with Mr. Richard Conn, who is also Candidate for the FIDE Deputy President under GM Karpov's ticket. Anatoly Yevgenevich Karpov was born in
Prior to his trip to KL, GM Karpov was in Beijing, Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam.
Karpov's itinerary tomorrow will include press conference and exhibition matches with selected local chess players followed by dinner with MCF officials, sponsors and members of the press
